Professor, Author, Lecturer, renowned scientist, Dr. Walter J. Veith  obtained his doctorate in zoology from the University of Cape Town in 1979, studied at the University of Stellenbosch, and did  post-doctorate research at the University of Hawaii in  the  United States of America. He has taught at the Universities of Durban-Westville, Stellenbosch and Cape Town and is retired professor from the University of the Western Cape. While lecturing at the university, Professor Veith was professor of the zoology department and taught in the medical bioscience department. While serving as chair of the zoology department , he was one of five scientists in the world honored with the Royal Society London Grant for his research in the area of nutrition. He is well known for his lectures and seminars on nutrition and  the impact  of diet on human health and disease, and lectures extensively to large enthusiastic listeners around the world.
