Cancer researchers at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology have found that Vitamin C and E and certain chemicals called "indole" found in cabbage, Brussels sprouts and related vegetables in the crucifer family are potent and apparently have inhibitors of certain carcinogens.

Caution: If you eat excessive amounts of raw cabbage, you might not be getting sufficient iodine...consider a kelp supplement (contains more vitamins and minerals than any other food.) Iodine RDA 80-150mcg for adults.

For some delicate stomachs, cooked cabbage may be hard to digest...but it is only when boiled that it presents a problem. It is harmless when stewed or better yet, eaten raw in salad. Digestion time: raw 1.5 hours, boiled 4.5 hours.

INTERNAL VALUE

Enormously valuable in diet for: Dysentery, Arthritis, Intestinal Disease, Gout, Anemia, Cirrhosis of the liver (especially that caused from alcohol)

EXTERNAL VALUE

1. Excellent for pain and inflammation in various applications - such as: BURNS, INSECT BITES, ABSCESSES, BOILS

PREPARATION: dressing of crushed cabbage leaves, promptly applied, relieves pain and speeds healing.

2. Has faculty for DRAWING OUT INFECTION and suppuration (formation of pus) from the skin for wounds

PREPARATION - WOUNDS:
wash wound with boiled water and apply dressing of crushed cabbage. Renew daily until healing is complete.

3. For more Serious WOUNDS:
cabbage leaves should be plunged in boiling water, or cut out center rib, iron till soft, or soak in olive oil one hour to soften (this makes it cling better and increases antiseptic effect)

Applications Respond Remarkably well for: binding up wounds, varicose vein, ulcerations, swelling, skin eruptions, hemorrhoids

4. PREPARATION - Hot Compresses:
Cabbage well chopped, wrapped in muslin - applied to painful area, offers much relief for: MUSCLE ACHES, SCIATICA, NEURALGIA, RHEUMATISM, ARTHRITIS, PLEURISY, LIVER ATTACKS, MIGRAINES - apply to brow, colds and asthma - apply to chest and throat, soar throat - gargle cabbage juice

5. OTHER APPLICATIONS:
LOSS OF VOICE- cabbage juice and honey, drink slowly
NIGHTMARES - cabbage water brewed with a bit of sage (evening drink)
